Year 4 - St. Francis

WELCOME TO YEAR 4 

St Francis's class

 

 

Dance and mindfulness- Year 4 got to create mindful dances where they were given a short sequence to learn and adapt in groups.

International Evening- French café: The children enjoyed croissants and pain au chocolate while practicing using their manners in French!

International Week-Country presentations: The children shared research, poems and art to teach each other about countries from their heritage.

Visit to London Central Mosque-we visited the Mosque to deepen our understanding of Islam to understand other faiths better. It was wonderful to learn more about another religion!

World Book Day- We had lots of fun dressing up, doing different World Book Day activities and enjoying some reading time!

Netball skills- We went to the park to play different games that could teach us different skills needed in Netball!

Science- we made circuits while learning about electricity!

Cathedral visit- Fr Dermott kindly gave us a tour of the Cathedral and spoke to us about how our local parish supports the community.

10.01.22- Indoor Athletics- Some children were lucky enough to go to represent years 3 and 4 in an indoor athletics competition. They showed great sportsmanship and behaviour.

Holiday Homework- Some fantastic projects from the Christmas holidays based on the Snowman.

Topic-We had a workshop looking at different froms of Greek art and what it can tell us!

Science- We acted like the particles in solids, liquids and gases to understand their properties.

Fractions- We made our own fraction walls to find equivalent fractions!

Local Area Week- we had a workshop where we got to handle real artefacts from the Romans. We learnt how they invaded Britain and were actually in Southwark!

A group of Year 4's went to a football tournament today. We played well and tried hard but most importantly we had fun.

Learning about Asia- we created paintings inspired by Russian artist Kandinsky!

DT- In DT, we have been making clay pots and vases inspired by the Ancient Greeks!

Science Investigation: Cornstarch and water- it looks like a liquid but goes hard when you press it!

Science Museum Trip- We went to the Wonderlab and then had a great (but disgusting) workshop all about the digestive system!

Year 4 have made a fantastic start to the school year. They have been working hard in all subjects and have been working well together as a class. 

 

The Curriculum newsletter contains all of the information on what the children will be learning this term and our PE days are on a Monday and Wednesday.

 

Please ensure your child reads at least three times a week. 

Homework will continue to be set on a Wednesday and will be due in on the following Monday. 

It is very important children are also going on Bedrock and Mathletics as part of their homework. 

Science- we have been learning about teeth and are investigating what type of drink damages them the most using eggshell to represent the enamel!

Topic- we are learning about the Ancient Greeks and worked out where they would go in a timeline!

Maths- we have been learning about place value and have enjoyed making numbers from apparatus!
