Making blood!

As part of our Science topic looking at the heart and its function. Today we looked at the components of blood and made blood, it was very lifelike. Different sweets represented the platelets and the white and red blood cells. It was lots of fun. We are going to check on it tomorrow and see if it has healed and clotted as our blood does when we graze ourselves.

Did you know in a pinhead size drop of blood there are 5,000,000 red blood cells, 10,000 white blood cells and 250,000 platelets? I wonder how many red blood cells there are altogether in your body?
